When Leav contacted me about photographing his proposal to Rern, he wanted everything to be a complete surprise. As they’re both well-known in Cambodia and familiar with many local photographers, he needed someone Rern wouldn’t recognise.
As a Siem Reap proposal photographer, I’m used to working discreetly, but this particular proposal had an interesting setup.

Capturing the surprise
Leav and Rern were visiting Angkor Wat with a friend who was filming them, something they were already accustomed to. This provided the perfect opportunity to capture the proposal without raising any suspicions.Meanwhile, I was positioned some distance away, with my camera ready, waiting for the moment Leav proposed.Rern had no idea that a professional photographer was there to capture the surprise.The result was a series of natural, candid photographs documenting the proposal and their reactions, followed by some relaxed portraits together at Angkor Wat.
